CHICAGO - Nobody saw this coming.

Time to look elsewhere when ordering sex online.

Craigslist, the online classified ads service, is dropping its “erotic services” listings after increased pressure from lawmakers.

The company will replace the ads in seven days with a new adult-oriented category that will be reviewed and screened by company employees.

Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster, who recently stated he didn’t believe that the erotic service ads were “sex related,” was unavailable for comment.

BOSTON - In what has to be one of the most comical statements ever issued by a CEO, Craigslist.org’s chief executive Jim Buckmaster denied that the classified ad website offers sexually-related ads.

You can bet if you're ordering hookers on Craigslist, they probably don't look like this.

Responding to an e-mail query by the Boston Globe, Buckmaster wrote, “I would not describe any section of our site as ’sex related.’”

Buckmaster did admit that there was an “erotic services” section on the site, however.

The Globe pointed out that yesterday afternoon, there were at least 150 sexually-explicit ads in the Boston area’s erotic services section.

COOK COUNTY, IL - The world’s oldest profession is alive and flourishing in the new media business paradigm. The doubters have been proven wrong! According to Cook County, Illinois, Sheriff Thomas Dart, sex and the Internet are a profitable mix. Dart sued the popular bartering website three weeks ago, claiming that Craigslist promoted prostitution and demanding that the ‘erotic services’ section be removed.

The site has come under further scrutiny following the stabbing murder of Brooklyn, New York, newsman George Weber. Weber apparently ran a personal ad on Craigslist seeking heavy duty sexual playmates.

The site’s terms and conditions attempt to weasel out of any responsibility for content and consequences found on Craigslist: “It’s not possible for a centralized staff to effectively review each of the more than 30 million free postings submitted per month.”

This disclaimer seems disingenuous at best. If the typical office environment means anything, one dedicated perv working alone can cut a pretty wide swath through that stuff while also maintaining a full-time job.
