In Florida, increased domestic violence tied to worsening economy
TALAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence has released a report that shows state domestic violence shelters saw a nearly 40% increase in demand since last fall, and experts say the jump is related to the worsening economy.

The report concludes that perpetrators of in-home assaults often step up their activities when out of work because they are home more often during times of unemployment.
