Chicagoans protest pay-parking hike with violence

Chicago has no tolerance for failure.

CHICAGO, IL - The elected penny-pinchers of Chicago should know their citizenry a little better by now. Just because a city is famed for its big shoulders doesn’t mean the man on the street—or, in this case, the man driving up and down the street looking for an open spot to park his car—will gladly shoulder a larcenous increase in street parking rates.

Chicago motorists are being required to insert up to 12 quarters in the city’s meters for an hour of parking, reports the local CBS affiliate.

Rather than just blow windy about this outrage and stuff their emotions with a juicy Polish sausage, the natives are protesting the exorbitent fees by destroying the meters themselves. Maybe the incensed meter-beaters would be a little less incendiary if the money was not going to a New York company that paid $1.2 billion to lease the city’s 36,000 meters for 75 years.

The New Yorkers have only themselves to blame for inciting this thrifty expression of civil disobedience. Never pick on a town that has a Second City complex.
