Murdered woman gave “insufficient notice” to vacate her apartment … management wants the rent
UPLAND, Calif. - The former husband of a woman who was murdered in a horrific Christmas Eve rampage by a disgruntled man wearing a Santa Claus suit has been told by a management company to pay the dead woman’s rent and sundry penalties because it contends she broke her lease and gave “insufficient notice vacate.”

"Hey, Mr. Landlord! I think you dropped something!"
Broadcrest Foothill Apartment Homes informed Carlos Ortiz that he owes $2,821 in rent and penalties.
Alicia Ortiz, her 17-year-old son and seven other family members were killed Christmas Eve by her sister’s ex-husband who then burned the house where they had gathered to celebrate the holiday before shooting himself.
A stunned Carlos Ortiz told the Associated Press of the demand for rent, “I just don’t understand it.”
Candyse Wardlow, the manager of Broadcrest Foothill Apartment Homes refused to comment when questioned and messages left at the company’s office were not acknowledged.

Bob Dylan once sang, “Dear landlord, please don’t put a price on my soul…” While the price of a soul is an intangible, to one black-hearted company, a murdered woman’s empty apartment is not. Apparently, the price for that is a firm $2,821.
